Direct flights between Napier and Auckland had been the most popular, but customers were also booking one-stop connections from Napier to domestic destinations such as Queenstown and Nelson and international connections to Melbourne and the Gold Coast.

Bookings on new Jetstar flights between Napier and Auckland are being made into the second half of next year.

An airline spokesman said bookings had been received through to July, although it was still just over two months until the first flight, from Napier to Auckland on December 1, departing at 9am.

Up to three return services a day are scheduled in December and January, and while December has been shaping as the busiest month, since Jetstar opened bookings on August 31 at the budget price of $9 each way, the service will increase to four return services a day from February 1.

The spokesman said direct flights between Napier and Auckland had been the most popular, but customers were also booking one-stop connections from Napier to domestic destinations such as Queenstown and Nelson and international connections to Melbourne and the Gold Coast.

But adding other destinations weren't in the "time frame" with Jetstar saying it is focusing on launching the service that adds Napier, Nelson, New Plymouth and Palmerston North to its network of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown and Dunedin, established 10 years ago.
