BMX enthusiasts young and old will have the oppourtunity to experience the Bay's best track this festive season thanks to the "Give BMX a go" initative.

The Romanes Park BMX track in Havelock North is a big attraction for riders, having just hosted a round of the 2015 Central region Champs.

Despite skill level, all riders of all ages are welcome and encouraged to come along and hit the track.

The project is a collaboration between two Havelock North businessmen renowned for their rhyming names, Milton Naylor and Hilton Taylor and will run throughout the school holidays.

Mr Naylor of Milton Andrews Hair Design and Mr Taylor of Revolution Bikes, have provided a set of BMX bikes for riders to borrow for a day.

"While it's possible to ride the track on most styles of bike, it's only a BMX that gives a rider the authentic experience," Mr Naylor said.

There will be a range of different sizes available to suit all ages.

Mr Naylor's business has funded the BMX bikes which he views as a community initiative.

"I'm so stoked to have the Milton Andrews logo on the race plates.

I know plenty of parents will be using them to entertain their kids during the school holidays" he said.

Hilton Taylor said after the BMX track was built he saw a gap as children without bikes were unable to use it.

The response from the public has been strong and bikes are being rented on a daily basis.

"It's helped us sell a few more bikes for christmas too," he said.

The BMX's are available for anyone to book from Revolution Bikes, in Donnelly St, Havelock North, seven days a week.

Helmet, gloves, and protective clothing are recommended.
