Napier pupils descended on Hastings' Splash Planet yesterday to celebrate the best road patrollers the Deco City has to offer.

The Hawke's Bay Today Cup this year went to the school patrol from Tamatea Primary School, while the Napier City Council Shield was won by St Patrick's School's traffic wardens.

Hawke's Bay Today deputy editor Mark Story said the awards were well deserved.

"These patrollers protect and educate young pedestrians every day on the school calendar, rain or shine.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to recognise those who provide the service - and in particular congratulate the two schools who took top honours."
