A 71 year old man died on State Highway 2 near Tutira yesterday afternoon. Photo / Warren Buckland

Police have released the name of the man who died in a fatal crash near Tutira yesterday.

He was 71 year old Hamish John MacLean of Kotemaori.

Police were called to the scene just after 2.30pm , approximately 1km south of the Tutira Store in the Hawke's Bay.

Police wish to extended their deepest sympathies to the man's family.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and senior constable Tim Rowe is asking anyone who saw a silver road bike travelling north between Napier and Tutira from 1.45pm to 2.30pm on Monday is urged to contact police.
