Hawke's Bay Regional Council harbourmaster Martin Moore said people could look forward to the big Napier Offshore 100 power boat race next month as there was no doubt it could go ahead.
Mr Martin wanted to clear up any possible confusion over the March 10 race taking place on one of the two days the Napier Port Classic fishing event was also happening.
"Absolutely it can go ahead," he said, adding he was just awaiting final application paperwork from the New Zealand Offshore Power Boat Association, which had been delayed.
He said once the application was received he would liaise with the fishing club management who he said were happy to "step out of the way" for the time it needed to stage the race.
"They are very welcome to race here."
He said the power boats had a long history of racing in the Bay and the Hawke's Bay Regional Council would "bend over backwards" to accommodate them.
