The Napier Menzshed will be opening their doors to a newly purchased and refurbished building on November 25.

The charitable trust previously leased a building on NuffieldSt, before moving to its new premises at 125 Latham St.

Committee member Bruce Dawson said the increased size of the building meant they were able to do more than before.

Napier Menzshed started three years ago and since then has gained 60 members.

"Our members make up a labour force of very diverse walks of life. The Menzshed members did the total fitout of the building including, lining, insulation and wiring," Mr Dawson said.

"It is a great organisation. A lot of guys get to retirement age and become inactive both mentally and physically. So we are all about encouraging them to be active and be with like-minded people."

The members meet twice a week at the workshop to work on community-based projects.

"We've done things like building a prize-winning float for a Christmas parade, prepared bikes for the homeless and repaired scooters for school students.

"The Menzshed concept is huge. We are a lot newer but still very enthusiastic."

The opening of the Napier Menzshed building will take place at 125 Latham St, Napier at 2pm.
