Dannevirke's Kevin Hall is a life-saver and hero, patients on board his St John health shuttle last Thursday say.
Faced with an out-of-control car speeding towards the shuttle as it headed to Palmerston North with four patients, Mr Hall took evasive action which saved the lives of those on board, Dannevirke St John chairman Don Stewart told the Dannevirke News.
"There's no other way to describe it, he's our hero," he said. "Kevin saw the car coming around the corner [on the Woodville side of the Saddle Rd] and it was heading sideways towards the shuttle. Kevin took quick, evasive action swerved hard right and saved lives. He only had a split second and his quick-thinking saved the lives of those on board, four clients and his assistant."
The patients want Mr Hall, a volunteer with St John for nine years, recommended for a medal.
"We're really proud of Kevin's response," Mr Stewart said. "All our drivers do a wonderful job looking after our clients."
