Numbers going through the Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park are expected to increase by 50,000 on last year, but with that growth comes increased costs for repairs and maintenance.
This was the message delivered to the Hastings District Council finance and monitoring committee yesterday by sports park trust chief executive Jock Mackintosh when presenting the draft half-year report to December 31, 2016.
About 300,000 sports people, performers and spectators were expected to go through the facility this year, which he put down to great facilities and sound operational support, both from the sports code managers and the sports park trust.
"This success breeds success and there is no better example of this than the exciting and substantial plans of the Hawke's Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust - there's some exciting stuff happening with this," Mr Mackintosh said.
He said the centre that had been proposed by Sir Graeme Avery would offer not only indoor training options and sports support services for existing sports park users, but also increase public use of the facility through programmes designed to improve community health and wellbeing.
