Our annual Bring Yer Boots campaign is in full swing with everything from cricket bats to hockey sticks landing in the distribution points.
Hawke's Bay Today in conjunction with Sport Hawke's Bay for the fourth year running hope to help break down the barriers of participation in sport by providing schools and clubs with appropriate gear.
For the first time this year the initiative was extended to include a variety of gear rather than just boots.
Sport Hawke's Bay commercial manager Ryan Hambleton said it was a sign of the times as there were so many more sports for children to play.
This has been welcomed by the community with hockey sticks, footballs, tennis racquets and even entire cricket bags getting dropped off between Wairoa and Dannevirke.
Strong piles of boots were also building with all kinds of styles and bright colours landing in the drop off points.
Hawke's Bay Today editor Andrew Austin was equally pleased to announce the expansion of the initiative.
"Hawke's Bay Today is thrilled to be involved in a meaningful community project yet again."
"It is an absolute delight to see the joy these boots bring to so many children."
In Sport Hawke's Bay's new strategic plan, Mr Hambleton said it wanted to ensure the region had a life-long love of sport.
For that to happen, children needed to have the right to equipment, so they could play the game and continue on with sport and this campaign helps achieve this.
