They have broken the news to their 3-year-old daughter that their dog Nala, a Chihuahua/miniature fox terrier cross, was lost in the blaze.
It is the second dog the family has lost 18 months, but smiles returned last night after cat Savage "finally showed up" where their home once stood.
Mr Sudfelt said the family was coping with the experience, as was his wife Rochelle's 26-year-old brother Jordan Blummont who also lost all possessions in the blaze. He lived with them and was at work when the fire struck.
Unlike the Sudfelt family he was uninsured.
"We have got to try and help him out with the cover we had, which isn't enough to cover everything we lost," Mr Sudfelt said.
"But that's just a minor detail - we have everything we need."
The family received "an abundance" of donated goods from well-wishers.
"There is so much of it - we have to try and find somewhere to store it and work out what fits the girls now and what is about to fit them.
"We also need to find somebody to pass on the stuff to that we don't need."
Mr Sudfelt is a builder and returns to work on Monday.
They plan to "eventually" replace the house they lost on the same site.
A Givealittle page was started for them by a friend. It sits at $5312 from 98 donors.
