UNUSUAL: Snow on the ranges east of Dannevirke is an unusual sight, especially so early in the year. PHOTO CHRISTINE MCKAY

The first snow of the year fell in Dannevirke and across both the Ruahine and Kaweka Range last night and this morning.

Snow was seen low down on the foothills of the Ruahine Range and also behind Rua Rua and other rural properties.

Tomorrow temperatures in southern Hawke's Bay were meant to rise slightly, with highs in Dannevirke foretasted to hit 13C, and 7C overnight tomorrow and Wednesday, with sunshine returning on Thursday.
