Voters in the Napier electorate will get a chance to hear directly from candidates in a Hawke's Bay Today Meet the Candidates debate in Napier tonight.
The meeting, run in conjunction with NewstalkZB, will be held at Napier Intermediate School. The doors open at 5.45pm and the debate starts at 6pm.
All six candidates have confirmed they will attend. They are National's Wayne Walford, Stuart Nash of the Labour Party, Paul Bailey of the Green Party, Democrat for Social Credit's Barry Pulford, Garth McVicar of the Conservative Party and the Alliance's Mary O'Neill.
Hawke's Bay Today editor Andrew Austin will moderate the debate.
Mr Austin encouraged Napier voters to attend the meeting, following on from the successful Tukituki meeting last week and Ikaroa-Rawhiti meeting last night.
"It is important in any democracy for the voters to hear what the candidates wanting to represent them have to say. This will allow voters to make an informed choice come election day."
Each candidate will give an opening address in which they will argue why they should be elected. Mr Austin will then ask questions on behalf of Hawke's Bay Today readers, after which each candidate will make a closing statement.
Readers should email questions to: editor@hbtoday.co.nz.
There will be a gold coin entry, with proceeds going to the Hawke's Bay Breast Cancer Trust.
Straw polls will be conducted after the candidates have had their say and the polls' results will be published in the paper next day.
• All debates form part of Hawke's Bay Today's election coverage and a special election edition will be published on Monday, September 22.
