A truck and trailer went out of control on a Hastings road last night, taking the driver "for a ride" before crashing through a street sign and shelterbelt.
The Turners and Growers vehicle was travelling along Evenden Rd toward the Hawke's Bay Expressway when the 55-year-old male driver said he "lost control" about 7.45pm.
"I think one of the tyres went down," he said.
"Once it had gone into the drain on the side of the road I had no chance to control it."
He said he was lucky to have missed a lamppost and fortunate no other cars were on the road when the incident occurred.
