A 6-year-old boy was hit by a car while crossing a Flaxmere road last night, prompting a message from police for parents to remain vigilant while their children play near suburban roads.
Constable James Waapu said the boy was crossing Palgrave Rd about 6.30pm and appeared not to have "looked both ways".
"He was hit by the car and grazed his back, he was responsive and well, and actually managed to get up and walk away from the accident."
The 6-year-old was taken to hospital by St John ambulance with minor injuries.
"He was taken to hospital, but it was precautionary. You want to be thorough with a boy that young.
