Maverick weather forecaster Ken Ring is forecasting a hot, dry summer for Hawke's Bay.
Mr Ring, who uses cycles of the moon among his outlook strategies, has released another weather almanac for the coming year and said Hawke's Bay could be looking at a warm and dry summer.
"Overall, Wellington may have the most sunshine hours over January and February, followed by Napier, whereas the cloudiest district may be Taumarunui followed by Palmerston North," Mr Ring predicted.
While much of the North Island could be wetter than usual, the Bay could expect to be drier during summer.
That trend could continue into autumn, with Mr Ring suggesting Taupo and Napier would be the sunniest parts of the island in March and April.
Winter could be colder than normal, however there was a possibility Hastings may be slightly warmer than the norm.
Next spring was shaping to be a dry one, with Mr Ring identifying Napier and Hastings as possibly the driest places in New Zealand.
Meanwhile, the Metservice has issued a strong wind warning for Hawke's Bay tomorrow.
Westerly winds are likely to batter the Bay from about 2pm, with warnings of winds reaching 65km/h, gusting to 120km/h, between Hastings and Eketahuna. The winds should ease about 9pm.
Overnight, winds gusted to 70-85km/h throughout the region.
Forecaster Vive Biukoto said the westerly winds were a feature of spring around the country and were caused by two fronts following each other from the Tasman.
One was due to hit Hawke's Bay this afternoon, while the other would bring strong winds tomorrow.
