A new contemporary art project space has opened in Hawke's Bay with a debut exhibition featuring two celebrated New Zealand artists - Ans Westra and Wayne Youle.

Located in Hastings' first water and electrical power supply factory, Parlour will present a rotating selection of local and international contemporary art. Popular cafe Opera Kitchen have also relocated to the newly renovated 1912 building.

Director of the space, Sophie Wallace, says she would like Parlour to become a destination for locals and visitors alike.

"My goal is to serve the region I grew up in and love by presenting the very best contemporary art through an ambitious exhibition programme."

Sophie, who holds a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Art History and Film & Media, has international experience working in the global Marketing and Communications Department at Pace Gallery, New York. She is contracting to the Auckland Art Fair, which will take place this May.
