HBT132422-04 Police car at night.

A man was taken into custody and a car was detained to a storage yard after a brief police pursuit in Napier on Wednesday night.

A police media spokesperson said a patrol came across a car being driven in Curling Cres near Maraenui Park which they recognised as having no warrant of fitness.

They indicated for the driver to stop but he drove off.

"It was only a short pursuit and he was caught shortly afterwards," the spokesperson said.
The incident happened just after 10.30pm and the driver was taken into custody after being charged with failing to stop.

Other charges could follow.
