The organisers of an Anzac Day fundraising motorcycle ride are hoping to provide St John with another good boost.

The Ulysses Hawke's Bay Club has staged the annual Anzac Day run for more than 10 years and last year handed their chosen charity, St John, a cheque for $1300 which was used to purchase new equipment.

"This is the main charity we support and at the end of the day the whole community is dependent on them," club secretary Jeff McPhun said.

Last year saw more than 100 motorcyclists take part in the 65km ride which starts at the National Aquarium carpark and runs though Clive, Havelock North, Bridge Pa and Fernhill before finishing at the Duke of Gloucester in Taradale.

Mr McPhun said while the ride was organised by the Ulysses club all riders were welcome.

"It's open to all motorcyclists, and in the last couple of years we have been joined by the local hot rod club."

Rides are also being staged in other regions and proceeds from them all stay in each area to be used by their local St John organisations.

He also encouraged members of the public to get along to check out some of the bikes taking part - "there are some pretty special ones out there".

The public can also make a donation to the appeal.

The motorcyclists taking part are asked to assemble at the carpark tomorrow at 1pm.
