I'll let you in on a little secret.

It's not one I usually share, but should you have been in the right place, at the right time, you might have caught a glimpse.

I don't have to wear fancy clothes to do a radio breakfast show. Some professions require a nice uniform — perhaps a polo shirt and black pants — others, a suit and tie or some tidy professional wear.

Even in jobs where grease is an inevitable part of it, the workshop floor starts the day in somewhat tidy and clean overalls.

Not here. I can get away with my ''rough jeans'' and a T-shirt.

Sure, there are times when meetings and public appearances require the ''good pants'' (we've all got a pair, tucked away for important occasions, right guys?) but it is a fairly casual dress code for the most part.

All that changed this week, as The Hits Hawke's Bay breakfast show got a new co-host to take care of things while Sarah takes time off to look after the lovely new addition to her family, baby Joshua!

We welcomed Megan to the show on Monday. I thought I'd better break out the good pants and make a good first impression.

So, tidy clothes on my back, I opened up the doors to The Hits studio and made sure I had deodorant on and the radio studio was nice and clean, with none of the usual scattered notes and newspaper pages covering every corner of the desk.

But that was when the dilemma hit me: as someone whose wardrobe is somewhat tailored to being easy to throw on at 4.30 in the morning, I really did only own a collared shirt, or two. Which gave me until about Wednesday before I would have to start recycling my good clothes and she would know that something was up!

Could I add my ''good suit'' to the rotation, I pondered, but even the best-dressed early starter doesn't go so far as to pop on the penguin ensemble to broadcast the 6am weather!

Maybe it's time for a wardrobe upgrade, was the next thought to cross my mind, but sadly, my wallet quickly answered no.

The office door creaked as my new co-worker made her way into work for the first time, wearing ... jeans and a T-shirt!

Turns out the flash pants can stay in the wardrobe.

Welcome to The Hits Megan! - Adam
