A man accused of sexually assaulting an 87-year-old Hastings woman in her home has had an interim name suppression order further extended.

The 29-year-old is facing charges of unlawful sexual connection, entering a building and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He has been in custody since his arrest two weeks ago and is yet to enter pleas to the charges.

The man's lawyer, Matthew Phelps, appeared in the Hastings District Court today and said circumstances had changed and police now supported the application for name suppression.

Police opposed name suppression at a hearing last week.

The man is alleged to have attacked the woman about midday outside her home on November 7 as she ventured outside to check her mail.
