A $500,000 X-ray equipment upgrade is on the way for Napier Health Centre.
But in the meantime, patients will be transferred from the Wellesley Rd clinic to The Doctors on Munroe St for X-rays.
Radiology equipment at Napier Health Centre on Wellesley Rd no longer met National Radiation Laboratory standards and would
be replaced with the new equipment.
It would be installed in about six months. Patients needing radiology services would use nearby facilities at The Doctors from Saturday.
Hawke's Bay District Health Board's chief operating officer Warrick Frater said patients should notice little difference to services during the interim period other than a change of venue.
But the new state-of-the-art equipment meant patients would wait less time, be exposed to "much less" radiation and clearer imaging would aid diagnosis, Mr Frater said.
"We are very excited about updating the facilities in Napier, and while there will be a six-month time lag before the new equipment is fully operational, the people in Napier will have the same up-to-date radiology equipment as that installed at Hawke's Bay Hospital a couple of years ago," he said.
Napier MP Chris Tremain congratulated HBDHB for demonstrating its commitment to enhancing Napier health services.
