Two talented youngsters planning careers in dance are guest performers at Dance Festival 2013 this Sunday.
Napier-born Charlotte Mawson began dancing at 4 at the Marilyn Swan Academy of Dance. When she was 7, her family moved to Masterton where she studied ballet, jazz, tap and contemporary dance at theGeraldine Inder School of Dance. Last year, she attained RAD Advanced 2 ballet with distinction.
This year, she played one of the ballet girls in Wellington Musical Theatre's production of Phantom of the Opera. She is in her first year of a Diploma in Commercial Dance at Whitireia Performance Centre, Wellington, alongside fellow guest artist Zac Warmouth.
Zac Warmouth has impressed in the capital.
Wellington-born and raised, Warmouth has been dancing since he was 5, beginning with tap and, over the years, discovering jazz, contemporary, hip hop, ballet and lyrical dance. At 16, two years ago, he gained his solo performance diploma in contemporary dance, and became the youngest cast member of Wellington Musical Theatre's production of 42nd Street. Last year, he played IQ in their version of Hairspray.
The 44th annual Hawke's Bay Ballet & Dance organised festival features dancers from 17 dance studios in Napier, Hastings, Havelock North, Central Hawke's Bay, Dannevirke and Wairoa, plus dance students from William Colenso College.
