Renee Zellweger's face of old (left), which looked just fine, if you ask me, and her new one (right), which has shocked the world.

It has been a few days and the world is still collectively gasping over actress Renee Zellweger's new face.

Celebrity gossips have been shocked by the sudden, in-your-face presentation of a visage which used to be Renee's.

"Who is she?" a couple of Hollywood reporters were heard to ask when Renee posed on the red carpet last week.

The Oscar-winning actress, 45, publicly countered the thousands of online scathing comments about her noticeably changed eye shape and brow line, unlined forehead and plumped-up cheeks by declaring herself "peaceful" and "healthy".

She did not confirm she'd gone under the knife but admitted she "made bad choices" about concealing her "visible exhaustion". What? She expects us to believe that?

Yes, I know staying "forever young" is touted by actresses (and some actors) to be essential if they want long careers. However, a few do choose to remain surgery free, such as Julia Roberts, Debra Messing, Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton and Helen Mirren - all of whom have steady employment both on stage and on screen.

Some of those who have gone under the knife - for example Meg Ryan, Nicole Kidman and Courtney Cox - usually startle the public when they make their big reveals after their most recent surgery. However, you can clearly see their new faces roughly resemble the originals.

People can, of course, choose to have Botox or facelifts as much as they like and it doesn't bother me. It's their life, after all.

What is annoying is that Renee chose to make a public statement following all the outrage, yet announced everything BUT the fact she has a surgically created new face.

I personally wish she'd left it alone. I always thought she looked stunning just the way she was.

Mariah's pipes are all right
Mariah Carey's The Elusive Chanteuse tour got off to a rough start a few weeks ago, with many claiming the diva songstress can no longer hit those fabulous high notes she is famous for.

However, Mariah silenced her critics at the weekend by belting out a perfect rendition of her timeless hit Hero while performing in Singapore.

So there.
