Sarah van der Kley and Martin Good from The Hits.

Sarah van der Kley and Martin Good from The Hits.

"I Can Do That van der Kley" is complete!

The challenge was loosely based on the TV show I Can Do That USA where celebrities are given a week to learn a new skill and then perform that skill in front of an audience.

After Sarah revealed her lifelong desire to sing with a band, Martin invited her to perform one song with his Dad band Badger. On Sunday, Sarah's big moment arrived.

After being greeted at the Badger Cave by four grown men (of whom Martin is the youngest) making a large amount of noise on drums and guitars, Sarah had to step outside for a few moments to collect herself. Martin says he'd never seen Sarah so nervous and Sarah says she'd never felt so terrified in her life.

Never mind butterflies fluttering around in her stomach; Sarah was dealing with gannets.

Despite that, she stood in front of the microphone and sang her little heart out. Not particularly well, to be honest, but the feedback has been mostly positive.

She's certainly not the next Taylor Swift (or even infamous Friday singer Rebecca Black) but, as the calendar on Sarah's toilet wall says, "If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you."

That's kind of the motto for Sarah's life right now; she's four weeks into a weight-loss challenge and just three weeks away from running her first half-marathon.

Not bad for someone who used to ask her friend to push her into the creek (or at least tell her mother she fell in) during the school cross-country so she didn't have to finish it.

While Sarah is glad she took the plunge and did something way outside her comfort zone, she has sworn to never sing with a live band again, as she doesn't think her heart could handle it.

She's even asked Martin to remind her of this oath when Badger perform live next month at The Cabana. Sarah suspects that after she's had a few wines she'll probably jump on stage with the band and offer to sing the lead for I Won't Back Down.

After witnessing first-hand what Sarah is like with a few wines under her belt, Martin agrees this is exactly the kind of thing she will likely do and has promised to never let her sing with his band again - for her own good, of course.
