Sarah Van Der Kley, and Martin Good from The Hits.

Sarah Van Der Kley, and Martin Good from The Hits.

It looks set to be another week of embarrassment for Sarah.

On Monday, Martin took great pleasure in taunting her all morning by revealing someone had supplied him with a secret recording of her. He refused to tell her when or where it was recorded but did mention it showed her true colours. This, of course, got Sarah very worried. She racked her brain trying to think what she could have done.

Had someone recorded her experiencing trolley rage at the supermarket? Did she let fly with some expletives while small children were in the vicinity? Martin's lips were sealed and he would only say that all would be revealed when he played the audio back on air the next day.

Sarah pointed out that recording someone without their knowledge is actually illegal (to which Martin retorted that as he didn't record the audio himself, that was irrelevant) and that it was pretty mean to play it publicly on the radio without letting Sarah listen to it first. But the man who has control of the buttons did not budge on his position, so yesterday Sarah got to listen to the audio at the same time as everyone else - and she was rather embarrassed.

While she was aware that she can be rather vocal on the sideline of her 10-year-old stepson's football games, she had no idea she was quite that loud. "Screeching like a banshee" is the term Martin used to describe it and, after listening to 30 seconds of it, Sarah had to agree (you can listen to the audio for yourself at thehits.co.nz/martinandsarah).

Although fellow screecher Stacey rang up to assure Sarah she wasn't the only one and at least she paused for breath during her outburst (Stacey's husband stands at the other end of the playing field during their children's games and claims not to know her), Sarah has decided she will now make a real effort to just quietly clap and mumble encouragement.

Perhaps she was just getting her vocal chords ready for her big singing debut with Martin's band this weekend. Sarah has managed to persuade a poor unfortunate soul into giving her singing lessons today but really, there's only so much a human being can do to help such a lost cause.

If you dare to listen, the audio of Sarah singing the Tom Petty classic I won't back down will air on 89.5FM next Monday morning.
