The voice of one of New Zealand's biggest bands is embarking on a nationwide solo tour.

From busking on street corners to pioneers of the Kiwi music industry, the Feelers have sold more albums domestically than any other New Zealand band and front man James Reid is bringing his quintessentially Kiwi voice to the Bay.

As the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for The Feelers, Reid has established himself as one of New Zealand's most successful musicians with the band ticking up close to 4000 shows.

Reid has written more than 20 Top 20 hits and 10 Top 10 hits.

However, he is now ready to take on the challenge as a solo artist.

His debut solo album, Saint, is finally mixed and mastered and will be released during his nationwide tour.

Saint shows off a more personal, intimate side to Reid with global unity acting as a central theme of the album.

"We have an international consciousness that we need to be aware of, it's important not to be isolated or narcissistic in your thinking but to consider others always."

He said Saint was about keeping everyone connected in an increasingly disconnected society.

"I want to change the focus of what's important, life is not all about money but the memories you make.

"Enrich your life by doing the things you love," Reid said.

The tour kicks off in Whangarei tomorrow night with the final show in Oamaru on Saturday May 28.

"It's going to be a monster of a tour, I could be doing this for the next 15 years."

Hailing from Christchurch, Reid started his musical career at the age of 4.

His first party appearance was on his father's knee with a breathtaking rendition of Rhinestone Cowboy.

The likes of David Bowie, Elton John and Cat Stevens influenced Reid during his formative years before his tastes expanded to the "pioneers of the grunge scene" in Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.

"I still listen to the Beatles and Rolling Stones because they have stood the test of time and that's the beauty of great music."

A keen fisherman and sports fanatic Reid will be packing the golf clubs and fishing rod with his guitar.
