Wildlife, social occasions and thought-provoking portrayals of life in New Zealand are on show in Images of the New Millennium, a photo exhibition covering stories and images from the past decade on now at the Hastings City Art Gallery.
The exhibition, toured by the Canterbury Museum, was developed in partnership with Christchurch newspaper The Press, which lent photos from its archives covering the years 2000 to 2009 including favourites selected by its photographers.
The first 10 years of the 21st century saw some major international events that also affected New Zealanders, such as 9/11, the second Gulf War and the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.
Its aim is to present some of the best recent examples of photojournalism, an insight into the events and issues that interest Kiwis and which are important to the country, and give overseas visitors an insight into what it means to be a Kiwi.
Images of the New Millennium, Hastings City Art Gallery, until January 16 2011.
