For the first time in New Zealand three mediums will come together for one show, organised by local psychic Jay Dobson.

Having worked with spirits professionally for about 22 years, Dobson only recently claimed to have harnessed the ability to communicate with animals - something he will talk about on 20/20 tomorrow night. He will be joined by Darren Graham - a spiritualist medium healer from Hawera and Auckland spiritualist medium Pat Worthington - at Napier RSA on Saturday March 22.

"Between us we have about 40 years of experience ... Pat is awesome, she can go back 200 years and give you dates, names and occupations.

"Darren is a beginner, but he was given this huge amount of skill," Dobson said. "We use the power of spirits to get the information we need".

All three mediums will introduce themselves to start the evening about 7.30pm, before splitting off for solo readings.

"We pick three members of the audience and give them a really quick message, before doing our individual thing."

There will be no cards, crystals or unnecessary drama - and people should not to expect anything like they have seen on television.

"I just tell the truth, we don't ask the spirits to come to us, they just do it and we deliver the message."

It helped to bring a companion who might be able to help crack the often cryptic codes.

"Sometimes you get a message you don't understand at the time, but a friend is able to take it in so you can discuss it later."

Dobson discovered his gift early on in life, but it wasn't the age of 16 that it became more than a "feeling".

"My grandad died and we didn't have a lot to do with him, but I was walking past the lounge and I saw him sitting on the couch - later I described to my father exactly what he was wearing, even though I hadn't seen him when they put him in the coffin."

Tickets are $45 for the show only or $60 with a meal.
