The final instalment of Summer in the Park at Cornwall Park offers an enticing blend of musicians.

The final instalment of Summer in the Park at Cornwall Park offers an enticing blend of musicians.

Get ready for powerful performances from some of the most explosive acts on Hawke's Bay's music scene this Sunday.

Summer in the Park introduces Power, featuring Richie Jackman on guitar and lead vocals, Matt Baker (drums), Neil Matcheson (guitar), Ben Jackman (bass) and Johnny King (saxophone).

Richie is the only original member of Power, which found some success in the 1980s, recording under Arista Records in the UK.

He moved to New Zealand with his family 22 years ago and decided to resurrect the act.

Power toured England last July, performing original pop-rock songs with a dash of soul at legendary venues such as The Half Moon in Putney, where Van Morrison, Elvis Costello and the Rolling Stones have played. They also filled The Cavern Club in Liverpool, some 50 years after The Beatles last played there.

A musician since the age of 13, Richie, was originally inspired by punk, singing in a band led by Guy Chambers, who went on to produce and write songs for Robbie Williams.

"Music is a passion for me, I love writing songs, playing and performing, particularly with such a great gang as our current line-up," Richie says.

Alt-country punk rock n' roll band Devil's Elbow are the second act on this weekend's bill.

Since forming in 2007, they have released three EPs and two albums, including Absolute Domain which hit shelves last December.

Core members are guitarist and vocalist Alec Withers, bassist Ben Persen and drummer John Hastings who play live sets with various guests, including James Rochester.

Their first single, KO, received extensive airplay, culminating in a nationwide tour as support for punk legend Grant Hart.

Debut album Sand on Chrome was mixed and mastered by legendary musician/producer Ian Morris and came out in August 2010.

Since then Devil's Elbow have played music festivals throughout New Zealand and have had music videos on C4 and Juice TV.

Last but not least to take the stage is James Rochester, who has been in bands since he was a teenager.

Rochester began playing guitar at age eight and writing his own music from 15-years old. He spent time in London then five years in Wellington as a working musician and guitar repairer.

Sunday will also be the last chance for concertgoers to pick up a piece of local artwork for a worthy cause.

The music-themed canvases are being sold to raise funds for Creative Hastings, and are on display from 1.30pm to 5pm.
