More than 100 quilts have gone on display in the popular biennial Hawke's Bay Patchworkers and Quilters Society exhibition at the Hastings Community Arts Centre.
The public has a part to play in the two-week show, Traditional Quilts and Beyond, with every visitor asked to pick a favourite for the
Viewer's Choice award, and decide which of the entries should win the Cecily Patterson Memorial Challenge award. Participants have each made a 12-inch quilt depicting what Hawke's Bay means to them.
The society is also raffling a quilt for $2 a ticket, the money to be donated to Age Concern Hawke's Bay.
The society has more than 200 members from Napier to Waipukurau who meet regularly in their own groups and monthly at Hawke's Bay Quilter gatherings. Four local quilters were prizewinners at the recent Taupo symposium.
"It [the exhibition] always draws quite a crowd; we get lots of non-quilters - and men too," says president Joy Hurford. The exhibition runs until October 26.
