Nadia Reid finds her own voice with new album

Nadia Reid has been described in overseas press as "a remarkably talented, assured, clever and confident singer-songwriter".

Dunedin's Port Chalmers may not yet have the degree of vibe that Christchurch's Lyttleton has but Nadia Reid is putting in a serious challenge to that status.

Actually that's a moot point because Nadia may be inspired by Port Chalmers but she also chooses to record in Ben Edwards Sitting Room studios in Christchurch.

So, Friday March 3, 2017 sees the release of Nadia's new album Preservation and already her international label is talking it up on the back of her growing reputation.

While still young Nadia is more than happy to compete with established New Zealand household names like Brooke Fraser and Bic Runga, who have both released new albums recently.

Nadia says that in the songs on Preservation she has found her own voice and is now much more comfortable in her own skin, than she was with her debut album Listen to Formation, Look to the signs.

Through the hard yards that Nadia has travelled in between the albums she has already been noted by the likes of Mojo magazine, the UK's Sunday Times, the BBC and the Sydney Morning Herald.

The emphasis in the reviews mostly refer to her fresh sound, the fact that she's self-assured, and to the lyrics which show a mature artist well beyond her years.

Some of that growth in self-assurance and maturity no doubt comes from time on the road, some of that shared in Europe with her sister from another mister, Aldous Harding.

Combine that experience with the inspiration drawn from Port Chalmers and Wellington and Preservation's release in March looms as a milestone not to be missed.
