as 20-something Adam Cassidy who gets caught in a massive powerplay between tech rivals Jock Goddard (Harrison Ford) and Nicolas Wyatt (Gary Oldman).
Wyatt blackmails him to infiltrate Goddard's company and steal his latest hi-tech smart phone before it gets to market.
With the lives of his friends and father (Richard Dreyfuss) on the line, he has no choice but to succeed in his mission and avoid detection.
But all is not what it seems and Adam's actions only seem to cause him greater problems.
Eyes are on him at all times and he cannot make a move without the wrong people knowing.
Complicating matters is Emma Jennings (Amber Heard), a well- connected employee of Goddard's.
He can't let on what he is up to but he also can't stop the growing feelings he has for her.
Caught in a rather substantial trap, Adam must find a way to carefully manoeuvre his way through and come out the other side alive while protecting those he cares for most.
Paranoia is an intriguing movie that relies on strong characters and an engaging plot more than it does on gratuitous action scenes.
It is a thriller in its true sense and a good one, too.
