More than 4000 fans turned out at Church Road Winery on Saturday night to hear British pop rockers Simply Red play their last concert together in Hawke's Bay.
After a 25-year run, the band will be splitting up upon the completion of one final farewell tour - their last concert date set for December 19 at London's O2 Arena.
Those who gathered despite the damp ground and growing mud pits were not what you might expect from a group of Simply Red fans.
There was everyone from groups of young boys sporting flat caps and low riding jeans, to delicately attired women in pearls and dainty heels.
One family from England had been in the United States racing cars and decided to pop over to New Zealand to catch Simply Red one last time.
Fiery red-haired lead singer Mick Hucknall was full of life as he pranced around on stage in a dark suit - giving the crowd exactly what they wanted.
With hits like 1985's breakthrough single Money's Too Tight (To Mention), Something's Got Me Started and Holding Back The Years getting the crowd up dancing and chanting loudly at the chorus.
Hucknall's voice may not be for everyone but for the thousands who turned out to see him on Saturday, he was right on song.
Nobody's going to forget the name Simply Red any time soon.
Mick gives fans simply the best
