Sarah and Martin.

Sarah and Martin.

As we battle our way through chilly weather, power cuts and constantly cold feet, it's inevitable that the common cold will rear its ugly head.

Many people seem to be infected to different degrees at the moment and remedies are flying off the shelves at pharmacies and supermarkets. While cough lozenges and nasal spray will relieve your symptoms, they won't cure your cold. According to medical professionals, there is no cure for the common cold. But according to Martin Good, there is a cure and he has found it. Suffering from the beginnings of a cold last week, Martin popped in to the supermarket to hunt for something that would make him feel better.

He bought a juice, drank it and came to work the next day claiming he was cured. So when I started to feel a bit under the weather on Monday, he sent me to the supermarket and told me to buy a bottle of Simply Squeezed Survive juice. Like a good co-worker, I did what I was told and guzzled down most of the 750ml bottle that afternoon. And what do you know, I felt better by the next day. Not 100 per cent but certainly further away from deaths door than I had been the day before. Now the question is was it the juice that did it?

The bottle boasts a huge amount of Vitamin C and Echinacea which certainly can't hurt. It also contains a huge amount of sugar.

About 15 teaspoons of sugar per bottle in fact. I suspect that maybe the reason Martin and I felt better after consuming this drink is because we're actually in some sort of pre diabetic phase where our body's sole focus is to keep us breathing, leaving no time to even think about being sick with a cold. I also think the large amounts of paracetamol I've been popping have had some impact.

But Martin remains convinced and possibly in his case, he's right.

On the label of "Survive", Simply Squeezed writes "You know how your other half is always nagging you to eat healthier" which suggests this drink is targeted at males.

So while it may not cure the common cold, I'd say this drink could very well cure the dreaded "man-flu".
