A Hawke's Bay high school quartet has placed second at a national choir festival - the only regional school to make it to the finals.
Hastings Boys' High School choir Dynamic Sounds and the school's quartet participated in the 2012 National Competition of Young Singers in Harmony in Auckland lastweek.
Music teacher at the school Jan Simmonds said they were the only regional school represented,
"The others were from Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton and Christchurch and provided very strong competition," she said. "The quartet was placed second with their renditions of Put your Head on my Shoulder and This is the Moment out of the other 14 schools."
At The Parade of Champions concert, the quartet wore their medals and sang alongside Music Island Boys and world champions OC Times.
Mrs Simmonds said Dynamic Sounds was made up of students from Year 9 through to Year 13 and they "performed beyond their own expectations".
They were placed fifth with their awesome performances of Sweet Georgia Brown and Put your Head on my Shoulder.
The choir and quartet are trained by Karoline Roberts for an hour a week although more practices are required closer to competition time, Mrs Simmonds said.
