A hearty kiwiana theme is what Clifton Cafe has gone for in this year's Signature Dish competition, which manager Sue Robinson says reflects the cafe's rural location.
As a result, Ms Robinson said the cafe, situated on Clifton Station, had chosen to serve a lamb burger.
The dish was acollaborative effort between senior chef Karama Sega and Ms Robinson, reflecting the core menu items of the cafe.
The dish is served with a homemade fresh beetroot relish, grated carrot, fancy lettuce, mint aioli and herbed feta cheese.
The cafe's homemade kumara chips accompanies the burger.
The dish also has some secret ingredients the cafe believes makes it special.
"We asked Grains of Europe to come up with a pumpkin burger bun which we are very happy with. So, basically, the burger is lamb mince and secret ingredients," she said.
