Laura Sandbrook is one of the girls to win a Dux award.

Laura Sandbrook is one of the girls to win a Dux award.

For just the third time in 49 years, Dannevirke High School has presented two Dux awards at its end of year prizegiving.

Laura Sandbrook and Angela Wyatt share the award, each receiving a $3000 scholarship.

Principal Dawid de Villiers said the first time it occurred was in 1964, then again in 2007.

"The nice thing about this years double Dux award is that the girls are good friends. They have spurred each other on and the competition had brought out the best in both of them.

"I am very happy for them - they are both superb academically. The award is based on statistics, and these two have the same subjests and the same results. There was nothing between them. They have both excelled throughout their five years at Dannevirke High School and worked hard - they absolutely deserve to share the award."

Dr de Villiers said it will be interesting to watch their careers in the future.

Laura is heading to Otago University to study medicine while Angela will go to Massey to study science.

"They are both a shining example of how hard work pays off," said Dr de Villiers.
