Catchy, upbeat tunes saw him walk away with a Brit Award and he became the first New Zealander to be nominated for a Grammy Award in the mainstream best dance recording category for 2003.
He continued to tour and perform and during the past couple of years has released music across the dance, rock and piano ballads genres.
Making his television debut on The X Factor this year he mentored winning act Jackie Thomas on her journey to stardom.
Crowds at the free event are expected to exceed 23,000, making it a huge logistical undertaking.
"The budget is $95,000 and with no ticket sales or alcohol sales to help with the costs, we must rally our local businesses and supporting trusts to share the financial burden," Trim said.
"We are fortunate to have so many businesses that agree this is a great community event and sponsor us to ensure Christmas at the Park remains alive."
It would not be possible without an incredible input from 200 volunteers from community groups such as Rotary, Lions, various churches and schools, he said.
It was the only free Christmas concert of its size in Hawke's Bay and it was important to keep the event accessible for everyone.
"It's a great way for people of all walks of life to gather together and celebrate Christmas as a community.
"This year you get to see an internationally successful artist in a wonderful park setting for free."
As well, there will be Christmas carols and a pyrotechnics display on the night.
