A preferred buyer for the reserve electricity generation power turbines at Whirinaki will be announced next month.
The three diesel-fired 155MW generators were opened in 2004 to generate power in an emergency. Conditions of the sale were that it could be dismantled and relocated only during the summer of 2011/12 or 2012/13.
The plant must remain in an operating condition in New Zealand for at least three years after the sale.
