APN Print has sold its sheet-fed printing operation in Waipukurau to former employee Bruce Doran.

The business, which operates from the same premises as the CHB Mail, is now called Central Design and Print.

Mr Doran had worked for APN Print for 46 years before taking over the new Central Design and Print on November 1.

He started as a linotype operator in Oamaru, went on to become production manager at Oamaru before managing the Taupo Weekender and eventually ending up at Waipukurau managing the CHB Mail, Dannevirke News and the sheet-fed print site for 16 years.

"We employ 11 staff here, which brings with it a big responsibility, but also an exciting challenge to grow this business and keep it sustainable for the future," Mr Doran said.

APN Print chief operating officer Brian Hood wished Bruce and his staff well for the future and thanked all at Waipukurau for their service and commitment over a long time.

Hawke's Bay Newspapers general manager Russell Broughton said he was pleased to see the sale go to a local businessman. "Bruce has been part of the Central Hawke's Bay community for many years and it is fantastic to see him taking over ownership of this business

"It is business as usual for the team at the CHB Mail and they look forward to working with readers and advertising clients, as well as continuing the close working relationship with Bruce and his team under the new name of Central Design and Print."
