Jan Alve acted on her gut feeling when she opened Green Revolution Clothing for Men a month ago.

She had been inundated by requests for a male version of the recycle boutique clothing store for women next door.

Jan is a well known face in Napier business, having won awards as owner and creator of The Secretary and more recently Opossum World.

She took over the reins at Green Revolution earlier this year and appointed Anna Greenslade to run the men's wear side.

The men's recycling boutique is unique in the Bay and Jan says they are focusing on upmarket labels.

"This is not an op shop - we're specialising in recycling upmarket brands."

Ralph Lauren, Rodd and Gunn, Barkers, R M Williams, Calvin Klein,Tommy Hilfiger and Diesel are a few of the tickets adorning the neck and waistbands of the exclusive stock - "We've gone for the top brands, carried on and refined."

Anna says in just a few weeks people have been requesting those labels - "The first Saturday we opened we had at least four people asking for Ralph Lauren."

She has a long history in men's retail and saw an opportunity at Green Revolution.

"I'd only been back in Hawke's Bay a short time when I walked in and got talking with Jan."

Jan says she'd had "lots of people" approach her to run the store but knew Anna was right for the job. She says the new store caters from head to foot, for any ages, all occasions and all seasons - they change the clothes over between summer and winter.

"We still need to have a touch of the other season for cruise ships."

They also stock accessories including cufflinks, belts and ties. Jan says they are catering for the discerning male who wants to impress.

"We offer style and flair at a fraction of the retail price."

The pair have received numerous comments that the new store is just what Napier needs - they have had "a good, steady response since opening".

Jan says the goal is to have regular clientele that new stock can be purchased for. She says Anna has a natural flair and ability to tune into people.

"With Anna's knowledge and experience, she knows when a guy walks in, what suits him."

Green Revolution is hoping to offer a styling and dressing service for any occasion - from an interview to attending a ball - where Anna will give advice on how and what to wear and what outfit to choose - "like your mum would've done".
