About 20 jobs are in jeopardy in Hawke's Bay with four related Taranaki companies going into receivership.
Australian receivers Ferrier Hodgson announced last week the receivership of Hurlstone Earthmoving Ltd, Hayes Earthmoving Services Ltd, New Zealand Pollution Engineering Ltd and The River Island Shingle Company Ltd.
Hawke's Bay Today was told by workers, who did not wish to be named, Hurlstone had an office in Napier and operated a quarry in Tikokino with a contract to supply railway ballast.
Hawke's Bay workers said they received a phone call on Thursday informing them of the receivership and instructing them to stop working.
Hurlstone was founded in 1969 by Bill Hurlstone in Egmont Village but his son Dean was now in control of the group of companies.
Hurlstone expanded into Hawke's Bay in 2008 where it is believed both Hurlstone Earthmoving and New Zealand Pollution Engineering operated.
Services included roading projects, bulk earthworks, construction of pipelines, quarrying and heavy transport.
In a circular to employees the receivers said there was potential for the company to recommence trading, subject to a review.
Ferrier Hodgson did not respond to requests from Hawke's Bay Today for comment.
