The third retail offering at Hastings shopping centre Home HQ will be a new concept from the Australian owner of Supercheap Auto.
Australian developer Charter Hall has announced that the Super Retail Group will open its first FCO (Fishing, Camping and Outdoors) store before Christmas.
It is the third signing to be announced for the large-format retail centre on the former Nelson Park site, with construction of The Warehouse and Mitre 10 Mega stores in progress.
The Australian Super Retail Group is launching the new FCO venture into the New Zealand market, with more stores due to open throughout the country this year.
Steve Doyle, chief operating officer of Brisbane-based Super Retail Group's leisure division, said he was excited by the move in New Zealand.
"Our unique offering is that we are bringing together a number of different categories all into one shop," he said.
"So if you're someone that loves the outdoors, you can come in and buy camping and fishing equipment, outdoor apparel, barbecues, outdoor settings and basic boating equipment, including kayaks.
"It really is a one-stop shop."
Charter Hall Group development director Mark Jacobs said FCO was the first of a number of tenants it was expecting to announce during coming months.
The next stage of the development was expected to incorporate three or four new tenants and a cafe.
Mr Jacobs said The Warehouse and Mitre 10 Mega stores were expected to open in October or November.
"Construction of The Warehouse and Mitre 10 stores is progressing to schedule and the internal roading and car parking is also well advanced," he said.
Local firms involved in Home HQ's construction included Gemco Construction, Mackersey Construction, Strata Group and Phoenix Contracting.
Surrounding roading and pedestrian infrastructure, paid for by the development, would give improved pedestrian and vehicle access to the site.
Super Retail Group comprises four businesses: Supercheap Auto, BCF (Boating Camping and Fishing), Goldcross Cycles and Ray's Outdoors. It operates about 400 stores throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Charter Hall Group, listed on the Australian stock exchange, has more than $10 billion of funds under management throughout the office, retail, industrial and residential sectors. It has offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Warsaw and Chicago.
Nelson Park was sold by the Hastings District Council for $18.6 million in 2008 to encourage retail development that would also benefit the CBD.
