Just over two years since quitting his role as the Napier Art Deco Trust's events manager Peter Mooney is set to return to the fold.
He has been appointed to the job in the wake of the resignation of Anne Barrar earlier this month.
Mr Mooney had been with the Art Deco Trust since 2000 before resigning in late January 2009 over what he described as "employment issues" and said yesterday he had no hesitation in putting his name forward for the role.
He was not prepared to talk about the past "employment issues" except to say there was a different environment today and he felt comfortable with it.
"It will be fun ... it'll be bedlam for six months but fun," he said.
Mr Mooney said the return to the role, which he takes up next Monday, would work in alongside his role within planning for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
He is employed under contract to Hawke's Bay Tourism to handle rugby cup activities in the Bay and would continue with that until November.
He has also been employed, under contract, to the trust.
"When I resigned I had felt it was time to move on to new challenges but with a bit of time and space, I've realised that Art Deco is a passion and it's not just a job for me. I've missed being involved and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in again," he said.
Art Deco Trust general manager Sally Jackson, who took up her position after Mr Mooney's departure in 2009, said she was looking forward to working with him as he had so much proven experience in the role.
"We are excited to be welcoming Peter back to the fold."
Mrs Jackson said a number of applicants had been interviewed for the position and she had been impressed by their calibre.
"But Peter's passion and performance in the role is proven," she said.
Neville Smith, from Geon Print which has been naming rights sponsor of the Art Deco Weekend for 14 years, said the addition of Mr Mooney to the trust would create one of the best teams it had had.
"He as events manager and Sally as general manager will complement each other well."
He said Mr Mooney's experience and knowledge of key stakeholders, and media experience, was invaluable.
"He is a man of many talents - it is great news."
