On the day before the Budget, Napier woman Adele Broadbent took the plunge and joined the KiwiSaver scheme.
Ms Broadbent is an author and works in book sales management with Beattie and Forbes.
Her husband and two sons had joined the savings scheme about a year ago, and she said she had been thinking about joining "off and on" since then.
Twenty-four hours after joining, changes were announced which would see her annual tax credit halve from $1040 to $521, and her minimum contributions rise from 2 per cent to 3 per cent.
But she said it was still worthwhile.
"It stays your money and they still give you something for nothing," she said.
She accepted the Government needed to make some cost-saving changes in financial sectors.
"What's come out here in the Budget doesn't bother me at all."
She also agreed with Finance Minister Bill English that the minimum 3 per cent contribution was still affordable. "I don't think that's too bad."per cent
