Hawke's Bay Combined Taxis have announced their Hawke's Bay fleet have all had new-generation Eftpos terminals installed, part of a nationwide roll out by billing system company TaxiCharge.
Forty-five taxis now have the new terminals which feature technology and protocols to comply with new standards for credit cards which must bemet by May 31.
TaxiCharge chief executive, Mark Lines, said his company's taxi billing system was very secure. "All point of sale transactions are processed in real time which provides the customers with the security of knowing that the opportunity for any fraudulent activity is greatly reduced," he said.
Smaller taxi companies said they were introducing the new terminals progressively but were more concerned about the cost of new regulations to be introduced to the industry in August. Taxi companies would be required to have a central depot and vehicles would need tracking devices, emergency beacons and video cameras.
