Regional leaders and business people have been pushing for a regional events strategy for many years and Hawke's Bay Tourism chief Annie Dundas told councillors the organisation was making process.
A "substantial document" had been produced and the organisation was working towards a final strategy.
Events such as Art Deco Weekend, Horse of the Year and the Mission concert bring people, money and businesses to Hawke's Bay.
These focused on the Bay's strong points of history, agriculture and wine and there was an opportunity to expand to other areas. Niche and Maori events would attract different visitors and some community events could be grown.
Hawke's Bay's climate and range of venues made it perfect for hosting events and a co-ordinated approach would avoid duplication, and make sure all opportunities could be used.
