Hastings Quarry at Fern Hill has won a coveted industry award for safety.
At the combined Institute of Quarrying/Aggregate and Quarry Association Conference held in Rotorua last week, Hastings Quarry won the Winstone Aggregates Safety Award.
The award is presented to the quarry operation judged as best meeting a wide range of criteria, including evidence of major safety initiatives, employee participation and management commitment to safety.
Holcim general manager of concrete and aggregates, David Howie, said the award recognised a very strong commitment to safety at the Hastings Quarry.
Hastings Quarry extracts and processes river gravel from locations along the Ngaruroro River, in line with Hawkes Bay Regional Council yearly allocations.
