Hastings Mascot's moniker revealed

Meet Archibald Hastings-Heart, the newest 1.8m tall, spandex wearing, giant rugby ball-shaped citizen of Hawke's Bay.

Archibald was officially adopted by Hastings City Business Association general manager Jane Janes at the Hastings District Court this week.

He has been nameless since his arrival in the Bay last month, when he was found on the doorstep of the association's office by Ms Janes.

"The big day arrived and the suggestions of a name for him poured in," she said.

"Over 400 suggested names were emailed within just 10 days which was overwhelming.

"Archibald was the overwhelming favourite with the highest proportion of votes so the people have spoken."

Peter Headifen of Bannister and von Dadelszen Lawyers officiated the adoption.

Ms Janes said with all the paperwork out of the way the mascot can continue on his quest to help out around the region in the lead-up to the Rugby World Cup.

He will be seen at a number of events over the next week including the Ron Giorgi Netball Tournament on Saturday, assisting shoppers in Hastings and helping out at charity events.
