COMING DOWN: The dusty and damaging part of the Farmers development between Marine Parade and Hastings St in Napier is close to the half-way stage.
Demolition of the AMP building, which had never been completely finished, leaving reinforcing rods to blight the top of the building, got under way atthe beginning of last month.
The building is expected to be levelled and cleared by February. Contracted to Herbert Construction, Auckland company Demolition 1 is carrying out the work and has followed an extensive minimisation plan in which much of the recovered materials will be sent for recycling. Construction of the new development is expected to take about a year.
